On July 22nd five bikers from the area took their cycles to Sergeant Bluff to join thousands of other bikers in RAGBRAI, the annual bike trip across the state from the Missouri River to the Mississippi. The five were Tom Vermeersch and his kids, Erin and Matthew of Danbury, Cody Forch of Oto, and Travis Cameron of Danbury. The group faced heat, wind, and rain and endured primitive conditions (port a potties, outdoor showers) while trekking across the state. They also took advantage of family and friends along the route to borrow a real shower and bed when possible.
While the RAGBRAI experience is memorable on its own, one of the highlights was the honor of being within eyeshot of 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.
The crew had a great time on their journey and would like to ride RAGBRAI in future years.
