Corn Days 2006

Saturday was grey and chilly and rain threatened all morning. Drizzle covered the area just as the Corn Days coronation was to begin but ended as Sam Jacoby, daughter of Scott and Teresa Jacoby, was crowned Corn Days queen and as Courtney Seuntjens, daughter of Stan Seuntjens and Becky Seuntjens, was named Corn Days princess.
Young children, some accompanied by their parents and grandparents, entered the kiddie parade. The MVAO High School and AOMV Middle School bands entertained the crowd with their music and marching skills. Parade entries, many with candy to hurl, kept the shivering crowd in delight. People filled Dana Hall for warm food from the Danbury United Methodist Church before and after the parade.
Following the parade, the afternoon was filled with activities for people of all ages at the park. The young children participated in the pedal tractor pull, fed the animals at the petting zoo, and became cowboys and cowgirls on the pony rides. High schoolers and adults lined up to toss horseshoes in the tournament. College students and adults stayed out of the elements at the shelter house where they played Bingo for a few hours. Light rain started as the 1-pitch softball tournament began, but the players didn't care. With bouts of rain throughout the games, the teams were eliminated one by one until, in pouring rain under the lights on the field, the championship began. Danbury Ambulance Service kept the crowd filled with food and served many cups of hot chocolate throughout the day.
Sunday was a much nicer day. The sky was blue, and temperature warm. Folks filled Danbury Catholic's cafeteria for omelets served by the Knights of Columbus. The Knights donated their proceeds to repair the roof on Dana Hall. The rec center found volleyball teams rallying for top honors during the late morning and throughout the afternoon. Danbury Ambulance Service again spent the day serving food to those playing and cheering on the teams.

1-Pitch Softball Tournament

As the rain fell on and off all day, the 1-pitch softball tournament went on as planned. The teams relished the mist and rain as they took on each other until two teams were left. The Halbur Us team faced the Treiber team in a downpour. Both teams played hard. When the final inning finished, the Halbur Us team was declared the winner.

Volleyball Tournament

The teams had fun bumping, setting and spiking and making some incredible plays. The finals found the Treiber team and the Owega Bucks facing each other. The Bucks took top honors and the championship trophy.
