AMES, Iowa Ð From Feb. 8-16, 2007, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will use permanent dynamic message signs to remind Iowans to “Click It or Ticket Ð Seat Belts Save Lives.” The signs are located in Ames, Mason City, Sioux City, Iowa City, Council Bluffs, Cedar Rapids, the Quad Cities, and the Des Moines metro area.
The signs will be in operation to support Iowa’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP), a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies to increase highway safety. Iowa DOT motor vehicle officers will join more than 200 state law enforcement agencies in an effort targeted to increase seat belt usage in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week. This is the first of six campaigns scheduled for 2007.
The Click It or Ticket program is conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with support from the Air Bag & Seat Belt Safety Campaign of the National Safety Council, and in conjunction with law enforcement agencies, state highway safety offices and the National Transportation Safety Board. The Click It or Ticket campaign is currently used in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Notices will be displayed from Feb. 8 -16 in accordance with the following schedule (subject to override by critical traffic safety notices or Amber Alerts):
aturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. Ð 6 p.m.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 a.m. Ð 3 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday: 6 p.m. Ð 10 p.m.
