Allen Simmons is the youngest child of Scott and Shari Simmons of Danbury. He has a big sister, Melissa and a big brother, Ricky. His grandparents are Tom and Edna Phillips of Ida Grove and Carl and Leone Simmons of Danbury.
Allen enjoys working outside and has an interest in carpentry. He plans on going to Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City to take up Management Specialist, a 2 year program.
The fifth grade band students at Maple Valley Elementary, under the direction of Mr. Dustin Bliven, participated in their solo contest in April. Pictured on this page are the students and their ratings.
A 1+ rating is considered excellent with very limited errors.
A 1 rating is considered good with just a few errors.
A 2 rating is considered average with some errors.
A 3 rating is considered poor.
Great job to all the entrants. It was very nerve wracking, and you all did a great job.

The music department at Anthon Oto-Maple Valley Middle School held their final concert of the school year on Monday, May 14th. The evening was filled with music from the jazz band, sixth grade band, sixth grade choir, 7/8 grade band and 7/8 grade choir.
A special, unvited accompanist was a heavy rainstorm which provided a cool pitter patter throughout several musical selections.
The 7th and 8th grade jazz band performed three jazz charts, including “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” featuring the trombone section.
Highlighting the sixth grade choir was a piece recorded by The Bangles called “Walk Like An Egyptian” which featured vocal solos and instruments.
The sixth grade band performed their two large group selections, plus everyone’s favorite, “Limbo Rock”.
The 7th and 8th grade concert choir was rockin’ to a Beach Boys medley, singing a classical tune by Bach, and showing off a women’s octet.
The 7th and 8th grade band performed their large group numbers, plus “Go The Distance” from Walt Disney’s movie “Hercules”.

The music department at Maple Valley-Anthon Oto High School held their final concert of the school year on Tuesday, May 15th. The evening began with each member receiving recognition, and the letterwinners received their letters and awards given to the outstanding band and choir members.
The evening was then filled with music from the jazz bands, concert band, concert choir, chamber choir, jazz choir, and a special song written and sung by Jeff Koithan.
The band and choir letterwinners and outstanding students were announced at the awards concert on May 15th.
The band students were given the chance to vote for the outstanding band member from each grade. Director Mr. Dustin Bliven oversaw the voting to make sure the election didn't turn into a popularity contest and the person was deserving of the title.
