A gorgeous weekend had people crowding downtown and at the rec center all day Saturday and at the churches on Sunday as Danbury celebrated its 125th birthday.
Families took advantage of the celebration to hold celebrations of their own. Extended families could be seen in the parade, at the rec center, at the dance, and in church.
These entries were near the beginning of the parade to give the kids a chance to participate.
Hoards of people lined Main Street to watch the parade entries make their way down the parade route. Pictured in this section are just a handful of the entries.
Saturday afternoon the crowd enjoyed food made by the Danbury Methodist Church.
Saturday before the street dance the firemen grilled burgers and brats.
Sunday morning's meal was served by the Knights of Columbus at their omelet breakfast.
People looking to escape the sun flocked to the fire station to play some Bingo sponsored by Danbury Catholic School.
Approximately 60 cars replaced the usual cars on the Barry Motor lot for the car show.
Local artists and former Danburians were invited to display their handiwork at the rec center.
People were found in the rec center looking intently at rows and rows of photos and other memoribilia from families and groups.
A number of quilts were brought in by a number of people for the quilt show. a variety of stitching techniques and patterns could be seen in the bedding.
The bidding for the commemorative quilt ended at noon on Saturday, and Irene Schrunk of Sioux City was the top bidder with $1,001.00.
Craig's Ponies provided free pony rides to the youngsters.
The kiddie train from the Mapleton Fire Department made the 6 mile trip to Danbury to furnish free train rides to the children.
Sixty youngsters were challenged to pull the pedal tractor with weights as far as possible.

A few inflatable games filled the rec center grounds for the children to try. The crowd kept the games bouncing all afternoon.
Kids of all ages filled the pens full of 4-legged kids and other animals at the petting zoo.
a number of people took to the microphone to show off their singing talents. The brave souls were judged by the audience and pared down to the top three.
Postmaster Peter Newhouse opened the post office to provide customers the opportuunity to have the 125th celebration cancellation mark on their mail. Special envelopes with historic buildings were also available.
The special cancellation mark will be available until July 23rd.

I was wondering if there is a possibility of getting a picture of Fr. Andrew Sohm doing the karaoke. I did see many people taking pictures, not sure if they were his relatives or not. So, just checking to see if anyone has one that I could get a copy of. I'd like to send it to the Catholic Voice in Omaha.

Members of the Lewis and Clark encampment camped out at the rec center for the weekend. They dressed and lived as the pioneers in Lewis and Clark times and demonstrated their ways of living to visitors.
The town was bustling with people checking out the garage sales on Friday and Saturday. Twenty-one planned sales and some unlisted sales spilled out of garages with the sellers hoping to unload some of their previously loved material goods.
Saturday evening ended with the street dance performed by The Rumbles.
Prior to them taking the stand, Shelby Wessling and Maggie Pithan were crowned Gem City Queen and Princess.
The afternoon's music was provided by Mr. G's Mobile Music.
Several members of the Remsen Oktoberfest choir brought the oom pah pah to St. Mary's as they performed at a Polka Mass.
Brenda Ashley shared her singing talents at Danbury United Methodist Church.
