Hoaglund Was Officer For Morningside Organization Presented With A National Award

SIOUX CITY, IOWA (Morningside College) Ð Morningside College junior Katie Hoaglund, daughter of David and Joan Hoaglund of Mapleton, Iowa, was an officer for a Morningside College organization that was presented with a national award on November 13th. Hoaglund is a 2005 graduate of Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto High School.
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year college and university students. Morningside College was one of five schools in the nation to have its chapter win the 2007 Order of the Torch Award on the basis of outstanding chapter work in programming, internal communication, campus visibility, and overall scrapbook presentation.
Presenting Morningside’s chapter with the Order of the Torch Award banner on November 13 was Jonathan Rotzien, who served on Alpha Lambda Delta’s National Council for two years and is a 2007 graduate of Colorado College. The banner will be on display at Morningside in the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center.
“The Morningside chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta is one of the truly exceptional chapters in the nation,” Rotzien said. “A chapter like the one at Morningside appears only every few years on the national scene, and their success is due to an outstanding class of students and extremely supportive advisors.”
The chapter was advised last year by Dr. Marty Knepper, professor and chair of the English department; Terri Curry, vice president for student life and enrollment; and Daria Bossman, director of library services.
