Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Light the Way

Last week Danbury Catholic School was filled with many different activities as Catholic Schools Week was celebrated. The theme this year, Catholic Schools Light the Way, found the student body missing from the building for a good part of the week.
The week actually began a little early as the students decorated "Lighting the Way" grocery bags for Colbert's Market. Patrons received these bags when shopping during Catholic Schools Week.
The students were treated to a day off on Monday as an inservice had been scheduled.
On Wednesday, the students vacated the building to venture to St. Rose of Lima in Denison for a retreat with a focus built around Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Thursday emptied the building again as the student body traveled to Ida Grove for their traditional bowling event.
The building was quiet one more time, but this time it was just for an hour or so as the students and staff attended their all-school Mass which was celebrated by Father Andrew Sohm, a Danbury Catholic graduate. He then visited the students in the school and told them about his vocation and his life's choice.
The week's activities ended on Sunday, February 3rd when rolls and coffee and juice were served following Mass.

Kindergarten Round-Up February 19

Kindergarten Round-up has been scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Parents in the Maple Valley District who have a child that will be 5 years old by September 15, 2008, are asked to call the principal’s office at 881-1319 to register. At this time, we need only the parent’s name, child’s name and birth date, address, and phone number. A letter indicating the exact time you and your child will be asked to come to school for Round-up activities will be sent to those on our list compiled at this time.
Each child will attend Round-up for approximately one hour. They will take a readiness test and have a hearing, speech and eye evaluation.
School regulations require that we have some written document to verify the child’s birth date. The State of Iowa requires that this must be a certificate issued by the county or state, and it may be obtained from the county courthouse in the county the youngster was born for a small fee. The certificate issued by the hospital is not acceptable by the state as sufficient verification. Hopefully, you will have the birth certificate the day of Round-up for verification.
If you know of someone who will be old enough for school next year, please ask the parents to call the number listed above to register for Round-up.
