The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #336 in Danbury invites you to join them in their efforts for the community. They will be distributing veteran-made, handcrafted memorial poppies in exchange for a free-will contribution. The poppies will be displayed at businesses in downtown Danbury on May 16th and 17th. Auxiliary members will also be available downtown to whom you may personally give a donation. Please help the ladies distribute the poppies and help the veterans responsible for your freedom.
The poppy made of crpe paper and constructed by the hands of our veterans is the official flower of the American Legion Auxiliary and has been since 1924. You will not find this poppy for sale commercially; it is only available through the American Legion Auxiliary. Official poppies are constructed only by veterans; no one else constructs them. A veteran is paid 5˘ for a small poppy and 10˘ for a large poppy, giving an otherwise disabled veteran a sense of self worth, of self esteem, and confidence that their service to our country is not forgotten.
The money collected for poppy distributions goes directly to rehabilitation of veterans honorably discharged from service after April 6, 1917, for the welfare for the families of these same veterans, for rehabilitation of hospitalized servicemen and women awaiting discharge who require treatment in service hospitals.
