The Maple Valley Elementary Spring program will be held Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the MVAO High School Gym. The MV Fifth Grade Band will open the concert with several musical selections.
The kindergarten through fifth grade students will then present the musical “I Need A Vacation,” by Mac Huff and John Jacobson. No matter how much students enjoy school, they all need a break now and then. This musical celebrates the ups and downs of a typical family vacation. The audience will even recognize themselves in these summer scenarios. From fishing to fast pitch, surfing to summer camp there’s a vacation idea for everyone. For a fun filled evening please join us for this humorous look at how we spend our time away from the daily grind.
On Sunday April 13 ten Maple Valley FFA members and two chaperones traveled to Ames to compete in State contests, received awards, and to participate in many events. That night hypnotist Dr. Jim Wand entertained the group. It was an eventful night full of laughs.
On Monday the group woke up early to attend the career fair and compete in contests. Molly Tullis competed in FFA Talent and did very well. Jeff Bruning competed in Public Speaking and received silver. Later that day Blaine Remmick and Bryan Boyle received academic achievement awards for obtaining a 3.5 GPA and for having an SAE. That night the group attended a barbeque held by the ISU Ag. College.
On Tuesday Paige Wright and Beth Weber took the Greenhand Quiz and both received a gold. Kyle McBride, Bryan Boyle, Wes Burkhart, and Jon Wimmer competed in Farm Business Management as a team and received a gold. Rebekah Benson and Jon Wimmer served as delegates and voted for the new state officers. Rebekah Benson received silver on the Chapter Scrapbook and a gold on her Ag. Processing proficiency award.
Jon Wimmer & Jeff Bruning were awarded the Iowa FFA Degree which is the highest award a member can receive at the State Level.
The group also attended general sessions led by the Iowa FFA State Officers and also listened to a workshop led by motivational speaker Scott Greenberg. The Maple Valley FFA Chapter also received a trophy for donating money to the Foundation Ambassador Program.
Congratulations to all who participated in the State contests and good luck in future FFA activities.
Respectfully Submitted,
Rebekah Benson
