Organizers of the 20th Annual “Sun & Fun Getaway” are inviting area senior citizens age 60 and over, to enjoy a day of entertainment, food, and relaxation on Tuesday, August 5, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Little Sioux Park near Correctionville, Iowa.
The event is sponsored by the Senior Advocate program and Siouxland Aging Services. “Over the past decade, hundreds of senior citizens have participated in this event,” says Sandra Graser, Advocacy Facilitator. “We encourage all seniors from the area to join in this year.”
Activities and contests for participating seniors include, Golf Putting, Ringo Flamingo Throw, entertaining workshops, Hayrack Rides, and the Cow Pie Toss. A fishing clinic, rod casting, and fishing contests are provided by the River City Anglers Fishing Club. Music for dancing will be provided by Sonny & Claire Woten of South Sioux City, NE. Back this year will be the Hat Contest, and crowning of a King and Queen.
Dr. Sharon Ocker, Retired Director of Education at Morningside College, will serve as Senior Master of ceremonies with Christy Batien, KTIV Television Channel 4, appearing as honorary Master of Ceremonies.
The Senior Advocate program helps older Siouxlanders identify, locate, and utilize services they need. Senior Advocates help residents by providing information, giving personal assistance, and making referrals to agencies and organizations. By advocating for seniors, the program helps many older individuals maintain independence and receive assistance when needed.

The noon meal will be provided by Siouxland Aging Services. The suggested donation for the meal is $2.75. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, July 30th. The registration fee is $1.50, payable at the park.
