Laura Maynard's Commencement Speech

Good afternoon fellow graduates, parents, family, friends, and staff. Welcome to the commencement of the Maple alley-Anthon Oto Class of 200. This ceremony is proof of a goal we have all reached. Four years ago, graduation seemed like a distant dream. Now that it is here, I can't help but think of all the great things our class has contributed to this school. Fellow graduates, we are a large class and have a lot of diverse talents. We have never been afraid to step up and use them, either. We did it all. Athletics, cheerleading, dance, music, plays, speech, journalism, photojournalism, JEL, FFA, BPA, and FCCLA. Some of our favorite memories not only come rom the classroom, but from these activities.
It might not hit some of us yet, but we are going to miss doing these things. Don't be sad, though. As Winston Churchill states in our class motto, "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
Our entire lives as of this moment only mark the beginning of what's to come. Our entire lives as of this moment only mark the beginning of what's to come. Soon many of us will be off to higher education while others get jobs or join the armed forces. We will make new friends and start creating new memories.
The "real world" will give us a beating. Jobs, bills, taxes, and possibly marriage.
Soon enough, we'll check our mail and notice a five, then a ten then a twenty, and even a fifty-year class reunion invitation. Don't ignore it. Whether our lives take us to Alaska or Florida or we stay close to this area, come back for the reunions! We'll stand around and remember all the fun and embarrassing moments we have had in high school. Who dated whom; who tripped or depantsed whom; and who ate chips, green beans, corn and pears mixed together.
It's all coming to an end, but fellow graduates, it's all starting a new chapter in our lives.
