Iowa Drug Card Has Saved Residents Over $800,000

Statewide Program Offers Residents a Prescription for High Healthcare Costs

Des Moines, IA- Iowa residents have saved over $800,000 on prescription drugs through Iowa Drug Card since the launch of the free statewide prescription assistance program. The program, which offers free discount drug cards to Iowa residents, was launched in June, 2008. Every resident of Iowa is eligible to participate in the program. There are no restrictions to membership, no income requirements, no age limitations, no waiting periods, and there are no applications to fill out.
Iowa Drug Card was launched to help the uninsured and underinsured residents of Iowa afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people that have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans. Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use this program for non-formulary or non-covered drugs. This includes people enrolled in Medicare Part D.
Anyone residing or working in Iowa can download a “FREE” discount drug card by visiting www.IowaDrugCard.com . Anyone not able to access the website, or otherwise obtain a member card, can simply visit any Kmart Pharmacy location in Iowa and ask the pharmacist to process their prescription through Iowa Drug Card. The card offers pharmacy discounts at more than 50,000 drug stores around the country. Iowa residents can download a free card, search drug pricing, and locate participating pharmacies at www.IowaDrugCard.com.
