Danbury Catholic alumni spoke of how their education influenced them.
On Tuesday the gym floor was covered with blankets and families as they enjoyed a giant picnic.
The week ended with the traditional bowling party in Ida Grove.
Thank you, Amy Seuntjens, for the pictures.
The eighth graders in Mrs. Berning's class at AOMV were given a number of newspaper-related activities to do for the class.
Along with inviting a newspaper person to their class or interviewing a newspaper person, the students could submit stories or pictures to the newspapers. Here are some of the stories. More next week.
My favorite topic is softball. Softball is a very exciting sport when somebody hits the ball and you and your team mates work together to try and get the people out.
My favorite part of the game is going up to bat and everyone is cheering you on. My other favorite part is sitting in the dugout and cheering your friends on.
I love playing softball because you’re with your friends and having fun, but at the same time you’re trying to win. My team that I have played on the last 6 years was the Anthon-Oto Hawks.
Every year we had awesome coaches. They have taught us a lot. Every year during softball we would always look forward to the Slip and Slide, because we would have fun have at sliding practice at the same time!
I play 3d base for the Anthon-Oto team. That’s my favorite team to play for. I enjoyed playing on their team and I’m going to miss playing on that team.
Linda Beeson, Anthon-Oto Maple Valley Middle School librarian associate, is my person of interest. She informed me that to become a library associate you have to have a high-school diploma.
She has worked for Anthon-Oto Maple Valley Middle School for nine years. She is five feet and five and a half inches tall with hazel eyes.
She has been married to her husband, Gary, for forty-one years and has three children. Her two daughters are Stephanie and Lisa and her son is Blake.
Some things that she likes to do are to read and take pictures. She likes to cook, and likes to play with her three grandchildren. When she was a kid, she wanted to be a librarian because she loves to read and loves book and likes to work with children.
Another job that she considered was a cosmetologist because she likes to work with hair and makeup. She also considered a job as a teacher because as I said, she likes to work with kids. When I asked her why she considered this career, she said, “I like to see children light up like a light bulb when they understand or learn something new.”
These were some of her dream jobs but she chose to work as a library associate because of her love of books. At least she gets to work with children as she helps them lock onto a good book and explore.
Football! Football! Best sport in the world that is in my book. Football! I like to tackle in football. It is fun to make people have fun. People like to play football.
Football is a sport that anyone can play. There are a lot of different teams in pro football. There are Packers, Buccaneers, Broncos, Cowboys, Saints, Panthers, Redskins, colts, Vikings and Jets.
There are a lot of pro football teams. But that is not all of the football teams that are in the pro league. Football is like the best sport in the world.
Football is the spirit of some people. Football is different in different countries. I like football. Some people get banished from football because they do bad things. It is still the best sport.
Information from wikepedia.com and www.stephaniemeyer.com/thestory.html
Stephanie Meyer was born on December 24th, 1973. She is recently thirty-six years old. She is known for writing the famous series that relates to a dream she had on June 2nd, 2003.
Stephanie was able to complete “Twilight” in a period of three months. She was voted USA Today “Author of the Year” in 2008. In that year alone, she sold more than 29 million books. By now, she has sold over 85 million copies worldwide, with translations to 37 different languages around the world.
Stephanie Meyer was born to Stephan and Candy Morgan. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut, but grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, also known as the home to Bella before she moved to live with Charlie. She has five siblings, for which she used some of their names in the “Twilight Series”: Emily, Seth, Jacob, Paul, and Heidi.
She married her husband, Christian, in 1994. They were both twenty-one. The lovely couple ended up having three sons: Gabe, Seth, and Eli. Meyer never meant to have her books published; she was just writing for her own enjoyment.
Meyer then, after “Twilight” was published, wrote the other three novels to the “Twilight Series”. “Twilight” was published in 2005. “New Moon” was released in 2006, “Eclipse” in 2007, and finally, “Breaking Dawn” in 2007. But while she was working on the books, she was steadily working her way up to popularity.
That is only a fraction of the information about her up climbing. She is a great author in many ways and I hope she finishes Midnight Sun soon. I hope you read more about her and the other books she wrote.
5.6.7.8! That is something you hear a lot if you hear if you attend Lindsey Lee’s Dance Studio located in Mapleton, Iowa.
The studio has classes for jazz, tap, pom, and clog. These classes are available for ages 3-18.
Lindsey Steinhoff, the owner and dance teacher, teaches all the students the basics and builds on to that. Then, she choreographs a dance for each different class.
This year, we are going to try a new experience, which is going to dance at competitions. “The competitions should be a good experience for all the girls experiencing it since it will get them more comfortable in front of crowds,” said Lindsey Lee.
The dance classes are a really fun way to build confidence in young people. It is a good thing the classes started 4 years ago.
The 10-1 Vikings are on a pace for a super bowl berth. After the win against the Chicago Bears this win gives them the confidence going into the next game. Our quarterback just needs to stay on his game and we will be good.
We need to keep giving our wide receivers and running back the ball. We have a lot of weapons on our team but we just need to keep the role going.
Brett Favre is having the best season of his life. He has only thrown three interceptions this season. This Sunday at Mall of America Field he was eleven yards away from his career high in passing yards of 402.
His favorite receiver is Sidney Rice. They cannot be stopped. His other receivers are good too. He just likes Rice better I think. This could be the year for the Vikings. This is the best they’ve done since I’ve watched them.
Someone who helps me at school lost her dad earlier this year, so I hope we can win the Super Bowl this year. Every Vikings fan hopes that we win the Super Bowl.
This past summer I went to a Vikings training camp. I met all the players. That was pretty awesome. I would like to do it again in a heartbeat. I got two footballs full of signatures. I also got three shoes. One of them was from Sydney Rice. I also got two more shoes from Adrian Peterson, the best running back in the NFL. The other one was from Sage Rosenfeld.
A day in the life of a sibling of Autism can be confusing, tiring, and even frustrating; so many thoughts can race through their mind, from ones concerning their sibling to everyday personal ones.
During the days when the sibling is home alone with their Autistic sibling many things can go wrong, such as their sibling throwing a fit to them running off, so they’re always on guard having to watch the doors and make sure they’re locked and keeping their senses wide open. It’s amazing sometimes how cunning Autistic people can be.
Autism isn’t an illness, it’s a life path that you don’t choose, but one that chooses you; it’s a part of you. A sibling of Autism can go through many things because of Autism such as friendship troubles to even family troubles because they don’t understand, but because of these things they often become stronger.
Siblings of Autism sometimes have a unique way of helping with their sibling, such as being able to calm them down after a meltdown when no one else is able to.
You are probably wondering how it is that someone my age knows so much about this subject, or that I’ve done a lot of research, but all it takes to answer both of these questions are six words: I am a sibling of Autism. Once when my dad and I were walking around in the mall we saw a poster for Autism Awareness and it read ‘Autism Speaks.’ The reason this moment has stuck with me is because of what my dad said afterwards: “Autism Speaks, but are you listening?” And this is what I’m asking you; Autism speaks, are you listening?
Stormy Trucke is a great wrestler. People look up to him. He is a sports fanatic. He goes out for almost any sport for high school boys. Since basketball and wrestling happen at the same time during high school, Stormy decided to go out for football, wrestling, track, and baseball.
Stormy is the son of Mark Trucke and Tess Gryder. He is a sophomore at Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School. He was in the 189 weight class. Stormy went to state in his first and second year out for wrestling. He was in seventh and eighth grade when this happened.
On Tuesday, January 19 there was a wrestling meet. Stormy lost both of his matches because they were just better wrestlers. Maybe the next meet Stormy will win his match. Stormy is going to wrestle on Friday the twenty-second in Ida Grove. He had knee surgery on January 27, 2010 and may not be able to wrestle any more this year. I always look up to my brother and his accomplishments.
My topic I would like to share with you is motocross. Motocross is a worldwide sport that most anybody can enjoy. Some may think it is a very competitive sport, that is true but this sport also takes a lot of dedication. Without dedication you will not get very far because then you do not put the time in that it takes to become a good rider.
One thing that can be different for every rider in motocross is the natural ability of the sport. Some people could only have been riding for one year and be the fastest guy out there against someone that has been riding for five years. No matter how good you are though, you still enjoy the sport. Like one thing I enjoy most about the sport is the jumping.
Something that pretty much everybody at the races can do is make tons of friends. In motocross, you can meet many people and end up hanging out with them all the time. The sort of funny part of motocross is you could be battling it out with your best friend all season long. This makes it fun because you can actually trust each other on the track.
When I mentioned that motocross takes dedication that can mean many things. One main thing that is meant by dedication is putting the money into the sport. Everything in motocross is all out-of-pocket, unless you are pro. Just because you bought a bike is one thing, but taking the plunge into your billfold to pay for the upkeep for everything is ano
ther.
Now when you hear someone mention motocross, you now know a little something about it. If you are ever flipping through the channels on T.V. and come across it, just watch it a little and that can show you the preparation they put into the sport. I hope I have changed the way you think about motocross after reading my article about my favorite sport
