| If you don't care about our woeful tale, go ahead and skip this section. Early in September 2026, our Donate button took you directly to a credit card payment screen where you could choose how much you wanted to donate, enter your credit card info, click a button and everyone got a warm, fuzzy. You because you contributed to something that you considered worthy, and we because someone thought we were worth. Then along came the scam. Someone made a donation. The credit card company alerted us that it was probably fraud and that we were required to issue a refund to keep our account in good standing. We did this. Over the next week, this same "person" made four more donations. Same name, different e-mail, different phone number, different card. Sounds like fraud. So I followed directions and issued a refund each time I saw a new fraudulent transaction come in. Then I started receiving notices that the credit card company was withdrawing funds from my bank account. I inquired why they were taking our money. I got passed from one department to another. Rinse and repeat times four. Finally, after an hour and a half, I was told that the transaction fees from credit card processing are not refundable, so even though I followed directions and issued a refund, flagging it as possible fraud, I was still on the hook for the service charges. Thank you very little, for doing the right thing. So now you have to request permission to make a donation. |
