Robert G. Mohrhauser

1942 - 2025

    Robert G. Mohrhauser passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2025 in Green Valley, AZ, with his wife and children by his side.
    Bob's family invites you to join them at Danbury Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 for a short burial service. Lunch catered by the Beef and Brew will follow at Dana Hall immediately after the service.
    Bob was born on January 7, 1942, in Danbury to Albert and Adeline (Knobbe) Mohrhauser. He graduated from Danbury High School and went on to work for Western Electric and AT&T for his entire career until he retired early at the age of 47.
    He was united in marriage to Faye Mohrhauser for just short of 40 years. He was a loving husband and father, and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. Bob and Faye moved to Arizona in 2017. He loved living in Arizona and enjoyed walking in Desert Meadows Park and Madera Canyon.
    Bob stayed active after retirement with various mini careers including school bus driver, ambulance driver, city councilman and mayor. He enjoyed working outside and puttering in his garage. Bob was a Friend of Bill W. for over 42 years and mentored many others during this time.
    Bob is survived by his wife, Faye; his children, Joe (Kaitlyn) Mohrhauser of Sioux City, Kristina (Darren) Smiley of Mexico, MO, and Rachel (Mike) O'Malley of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Anna Mohrhauser, Nathan (Eden) Mohrhauser, Jared (Molly) Smiley, Allison (Connor Hoffman) Smiley, Erika Smiley, Lauren O'Malley, Meghan (Karl) Schwarzkopf, and Sarah O'Malley; siblings Mae Barron of Sioux City, Laura Danaher of Denver, CO, and Thomas (Donna) Mohrhauser of Mapleton.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Rosie Wenger, Jim Mohrhauser and Bill Mohrhauser.


Thomas C. Schimmer

1948 - 2025

    Thomas C. Schimmer, age 76, of Danbury passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at his residence.
    A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Danbury. Father William A. McCarthy will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Carlson-Frum Post No. 0336 of the American Legion of Danbury.
    A Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Danbury.

    Thomas Clem Schimmer was born on November 6, 1948, to Clem and Mary (Gahan) Schimmer in Battle Creek. He grew up in Danbury and received his education from Danbury Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1966.
    After graduating, Tom enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. After completing basic training at Fort Campbell, KY, he served his country and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home, Tom began his employment as a truck driver for Fred Grell Trucking of Danbury.
    On November 4, 1972, Tom was united in marriage to Joyce Kapusta at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ravenna, OH. The couple made their home in Danbury and were blessed with two sons, Ryan Thomas and Joel Robert.
    Tom later owned and operated Schimmer's Service in Danbury for 30 years before returning to open road with Hewitt Trucking in Ida Grove and then eventually Quality Liquid Feed in Dodgeville, WI, until his retirement.
    Tom was a lifelong resident of Danbury and was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with his family. Tom was a volunteer on the Danbury Fire Department and a member of the Carlson-Frum Post No. 0336 of the American Legion of Danbury. Tom also served several terms as a city councilman and ultimately became the Mayor of Danbury for many years. He was always a reliable volunteer for any community project in town. Tom enjoyed playing a round of golf at Willow Vale Golf Club in Mapleton, especially with his two boys. He was always up for a beer with his friends and had a love for commanding an 18-wheeler on the open road.
    Left to cherish his memories include sons Ryan (Jennifer) Schimmer of Aurora, CO and Joel (Sheila) Schimmer of Burlingame, CA; three grandchildren: Patrick, Molly and Ava; brother John Schimmer of Napa, CA; sisters Betty Meier of Sioux City and Jean Karhoff of Sioux City; sisters-in-law Janice (Thomas) Pacenta of Hudson, OH, and Jill (Rick) Lewis of Kent, OH; brothers-in-law Gerald (Marcia) Kapusta of Wauchula, FL, Gregory (Sherry) Kapusta of Georgetown, KY, and Jeffrey (Kellie) Kapusta of Kent, OH; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
    Tom was preceded in death by his parents Clem and Mary (Gahan) Schimmer; wife Joyce Schimmer; in-laws Stanley and Florence (Drugan) Kapusta, brother Rev. Robert J. Schimmer; sister-in-law Catherine Schimmer; and brothers-in-law Leo Meier and Bill Karhoff.


Hattie Jo Dougherty

2025 - 2025

    Hattie Jo Dougherty, infant daughter of Ryan and Samantha Dougherty, was welcomed into the world at UnityPoint St. Luke's in Sioux City, IA, on April 24, 2025. Born early, Hattie was cherished for two days before passing gently into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus.
    A Private Family Graveside Service was held in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Father William A. McCarthy officiating.

    Although her time was short, Hattie Jo moved mountains and was dearly loved by her family. She is survived by her parents Ryan and Samantha Dougherty of Mapleton; sister Hazel; grandparents Steve (Stacie) Halbur, Dan (Jill) Dougherty and Mary Joan (Stan) Arnold; aunts and uncles, Brittany (Adam Klein) Hermsen, Haylee Halbur, Derek (Kendra) Dougherty and Tim (Carina) Dougherty; great grandparents Suzanne Dougherty, Willy (Vivian) Morfitt, Bennye Savala; and extended family.
    Hattie was welcomed into her eternal home in heaven by her great grandparents Bob Dougherty, Vernon Wilhite, Norman (Inez) Halbur, and Richard Savala.


Pauline A. Hummelgard

1935 - 2025

    Pauline A. Hummelgard, age 89, of Battle Creek passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.
    A Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Battle Creek.
    A Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Battle Creek. Rev. Randy D. Cormeny officiated. Committal Services followed in Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek.

    Pauline A. (Dose) Hummelgard was born on October 10, 1935, to William and Rose (Brown) Dose in rural Danbury. She was baptized into the Christian faith on June 14, 1936, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton by Rev. August Rueber. She was also confirmed there on June 5, 1949, by Rev. Daryl Schmidt.
    At the age of three, she and her family moved to a farm northwest of Mapleton where she attended Hickory Grove School until its closing and finished 7th and 8th grade in Smithland. Pauline lived at the family farm and helped care for the family following the death of her mother, Rose at an early age until her marriage to Orville Hummelgard on June 10, 1956, at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
    In November of 1956, Orville and Pauline moved to a family farm where they began their farming operation. They raised grain and livestock together for 52 years. They were blessed with four children: James, Lois, Duane, and Rose Mary. On November 19, 2005, they moved into Battle Creek.
    Pauline was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. She was an active member of the Mary's Circle, member of the choir, and in charge of the cradle roll. She enjoyed working outdoors with flowers, feeding and watching her birds, and gardening. She was a hard worker and would do anything for anyone. She was an active member of the Battle Creek Women's Club. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Pauline's grandchildren especially looked forward to getting homemade Christmas ornaments every year. She also embroidered a set of dish towels for every grandchild and made crib quilts for every grandchild and great grandchild.
    Pauline's final years were spent residing at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek where she enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing Bingo. She had special bonds with the staff members and even had special nicknames for them.
    Left to cherish her memory are her children: James Hummelgard of Mapleton, Lois (Jeff) Holmes of Battle Creek, Duane (Lauri) Hummelgard of Battle Creek, and Rose Mary (Dan) Grau of Lawton; grandchildren Jason (Mandy) Holmes, Becky (Matt) Matthews, Jill (Bill) Krueger, Sarah (Kyle) Wonders, Sheryl (Whitt) Spaulding, Katie (Mark) Hasler, Justin Hummelgard, Kristi (Eric) Loofe, and Michael (Liz) Grau; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Darlene Dose, Florice Dose, and Betty (Ken) Keeney; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
    Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Orville; parents William "Bill" and Rose Dose; brothers Norman (Elnora) Dose, Charles "Bud" Dose, and Leo (Norma Jean) Dose.
