Danbury Fire Department Street Dance August 12th
Put on your dancin’ shoes and get ready for the Danbury Fire Department’s Annual Street Dance and BBQ. The event will be held on Saturday, August 12th.
The BBQ will run from 5:30 until midnight, and the dance featuring Over the Border will begin at 8:00 and play until 12:00 midnight. The winners of the duck race will also be announced.
Proceeds will benefit the Danbury Fire Department.
Chicken Dinner Sunday
St. Mary’s Rosary Society in Danbury invites you to enjoy a classic chicken dinner without all the work. The society will hold a chicken dinner on Sunday, August 13th from 11:00 until 1:00 at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Danbury. Along with the chicken which is catered by Staley’s, potato, dinner roll, salads, desserts and beverage are included in the feast.
The cost is $7.50 for individuals age 11 and older, $5.00 for people from 5-10 years old, and children 4 and under are free. Carryouts are available. Please call the school at 883-2020 by 11:30 for carryouts.
Duck Race Saturday
The Danbury Community Club has been selling chances for their duck race during the past year, and over 2,000 duckies will hit the Maple River at the bridge by the John Fick farm this Saturday afternoon. The ducks will float the river, and the top ducks will earn monetary awards for their “owners.” The estimated time of arrival at the finish line, the bridge just south of Danbury on L37 by the Tim Treiber farm, is 5:00. This will depend on the current in the river on Saturday. With the recent rains, the duckies will hopefully “swim” relatively well.
Refreshments will be served by the finish line. The lucky ducks will be announced at the firemen’s street dance that evening.
All proceeds will be used to fix the roof on Dana Hall. The old, worn roof has needed fixing for a long time, and it was made evident last week as the much needed rain storms caused roof leakage which, in turn, pushed the ceiling over the dance floor to the ground.
45 Year Missing Persons Case Solved
Stolz Remains Most Likely Found in Wisconsin
On February 22, 1961, Carl “Snay” Stolz, 21, and his friend, Ronald Wick, 19, both of Madison, Wisconsin, disappeared. Family and friends suspected the two had been on a lake in Madison when the car broke through the ice. Many from this area traveled to Madison to help find the two, as Snay grew up in Danbury and graduated with the Danbury High School Class of ‘57. After a thorough search of both Lake Monona and Lake Waubesa, neither man nor a car were found, and the search was ended.
Last week a recreational diver located a 1950 Ford 2 door coupe on the bottom of Lake Waubesa and reported his find to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. It was determined that the vehicle was owned by Wick. The Dane County Sherif’s Office Dive Team was tasked with searching the vehicle and recovering any human remains which might still have been in the vehicle. The team did find human remains and personal possessions, and Dane County Coroner John Stanley stated there was enough evidence to tentatively identify the remains as those belonging to Stolz and Wick.
Snay’s brother, Lawrence of Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been very involved in the latest search and recovery. He communicates with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office daily and has been kept abreast of breaking news. He has been very excited about finding his brother’s remains. While his dad, Hans passed away without getting the closure needed and his mom suffers from dementia and hasn’t been told of the breaking news, Lawrence will be able to get the closure needed for the loss of his brother. He is planning to have a memorial service here later.

It’s Corn Days Time!
Yes, there will be a Corn Days this year. A meeting with just a few people present was held last week, and it was decided that we would hold Corn Days September 23 and 24. The schedule, for now, is a little light, but with the lack of volunteers only a light schedule is available. Hint, hint!
