The schools had their first 5-day week since Christmas break last week, and that was perfect for the staff and students at Danbury Catholic. The school celebrated Catholic Schools Week, as did all Catholic schools across the nation.
Along with the usual education, several activities were enjoyed during the week. A special Mass kicked off the week, and DC alumni spoke of how their education influenced them. On Tuesday the gym floor was covered with blankets and families as they enjoyed a giant picnic. Thursday's retreat with St. Rose of Lima from Denison was postponed because of the weather. The week ended with the traditional bowling party in Ida Grove.

Fourteen CCD students and 4 adults from St. Mary's, spent from 3 to 8 hours in the kitchen and cafeteria at Danbury Catholic making Valentine cookies Kim Boysen-style. Around 60 dozen cookies were created to fill cookie orders for the project.
All proceeds from the cookie sales will be used to create more cookies at a later date to ship to a couple troops overseas. The troops eartagged for the sweets, if they are still in action this spring, each contain an uncle of one of the sophomore students. Cole Treiber's uncle, Brent Juelfs is currently stationed in Iraq. Brent is the son of Sharon and Dick Juelfs of Cushing. In Afghanistan, Andy Seuntjen's uncle, Tom Vermeersch is working with the USDA and is housed with the soldiers. Tom is the son-in-law of Tootie and Clair Seuntjens of Danbury, and the Vermeersch family lived in Danbury before moving to Springfield, IL.
Some extra cookies were made for anyone still wishing to order. They are packaged in sets of a single cookie (for those who CAN eat just one) for $1, half a dozen cookies for $5, or a baker's dozen (13 cookies) for $10.
Those who have ordered (or do order) cookies may pick them up after the Masses in Danbury on Saturday, February 13 (Mass at 5:30) and Sunday, February 14 (Mass at 8:30). They will also be taken to Anthon on February 14 to be picked up after their 10:30 Mass. If these times don't work, we will try to accommodate your needs. Sorry, we cannot deliver cookies.
If you are interested in purchasing any cookies or in making a monetary donation, please contact either Lynn Buth at 712-893-2160 or at buth@danbury-ia.com or call Lisa Wenger at 883-2215 and leave a message if necessary.

Giving daffodils saves lives!
One of the first flowers of spring, the daffodil is the symbol of hope. To the American Cancer Society, this flower represents the hope that cancer will one day be eliminated. Purchasing daffodils is an opportunity to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays, a world where cancer never steals another year from anyone’s life. It allows the American Cancer Society to help people stay well with tips, tools, and resources to help them take steps to reduce their risk of cancer.
Daffodil Days is coming to Mapleton soon. Orders for fresh cut daffodils are being taken through Monday, February 22nd at Valley Bank, Bank Plus and First State Bank, all in Mapleton. The daffodils should arrive on March 15th and will be ready for pick up at Valley Bank in Mapleton.
Please help the American Cancer society with their fight against cancer and give people, possibly someone near and dear to you, hope.
