Tractors Roar in Return of Tractor Pull

Firefighter Erik Bailey watches the tractor pull while waiting to hook up the next contestant.

Last week was a bit chilly compared to previous weeks. Saturday began a little bit cool, like the rest of the week, but by midmorning it was quite pleasant outside. The entire day stayed very nice, a great day to spend at the Danbury Fire Department's tractor pull.
The pull, returning after an 18 year hiatus, was well received. Around 150 entries took their turn in the dirt, hoping to outpull their opponents. The crew kept the track in good shape and the tractors on pace. A steady stream of tractors roared in the dirt, many bursting with black exhaust to put an exclamation mark on their power.
The firemen provided a meal which sold out just a couple hours after the pull began. Pork, hamburgers, and hot dogs fed a steady line of hungry customers.
"A good time was had by all," stated Fire Chief Bob Welte. "I think the folks that were there had a good time."
The smiles and positive feedback from participants and spectators alike would agree with that conclusion from Welte. He added that participants were commenting that the tractor pull ran very smoothly, and there were multiple people who said that they would return next year. Some even said that they would bring more people next year.
The firemen did indeed pull off a great tractor pull. It will be back next year, and they will have more food! Hopefully they can furnish a beautiful day again, too!
Proceeds from the tractor pull will be used to pay for the grass rig apparatus for the department's new grass rig. Opportunities to give them donations for their needs will occur at Corn Days at their cornhole tournament and their supper on September 20th. Check out the schedule in this issue for more information.

Corn Days Royalty Election Begins

It's time for Corn Days elections to begin. The ballots have been delivered to the precincts of Colbert's Market and KCK's. The ballot is also in this week's Review.
All people who have a Danbury address or phone number, works in Danbury, or is involved in any Danbury organization is welcome to vote.
Here's the important part which is missed by an alarming number of voters - you must vote for TWO girls and TWO boys. Any ballot which doesn't have votes for two each will be tossed out. Also, you must write your name legibly. If we can't read it, your ballot will be tossed.
If you cannot make it to a precinct or prefer to vote not in front of others, you may vote by calling or texting Lynn by 5:00 on Thursday, September 18th.
Voting will end at 5:00 on Thursday, September 18th. The winners will be crowned around noon at the little league lunch at the fire station on Saturday, September 20th.

Time is Running Out to File Petitions for City Council, School Board Openings

The deadline to file petitions to run for the Danbury City Council or MVAO School Board is September 18th. This would be a great opportunity to help make decisions for your council or school.
This year, the seats for the Danbury Mayor Brock Boyle and councilpersons Kendra Sexton and Kathy Scholl are up for election. Interested persons need to live in city limits of Danbury.
In the MVAO School District, The seats for Dale Wimmer (District 3), Jana Hamann (District 5), and Karen Kennedy (District 1) are up for election. You need to live in that district to file a petition for nomination. Voters in all districts will ultimately vote for the electors in all districts on election day.
For both elections, general information is the same for electors. An eligible elector must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Iowa, and at least 18 years old. An eligible elector may not be a convicted felon (unless voting rights have been restored by the president or governor, including via Executive Order), be currently judged incompetent to vote by a court, and claim the right to vote in any other place.
Packets with signature petitions and affidavits are available at Danbury City Hall for the mayor and city council positions and in the Mapleton central office for the school board positions. They may also be downloaded from the Iowa Secretary of State website, https://sos.iowa.gov/voters/schools-and-cities.
Completed petitions must be filed by September 18th for both elections. The petitions for the municipal election is to be returned to the auditor's office in Sioux City. The petitions for the school election are to be turned into Shona Klingensmith at the central office in Mapleton.
Please consider running for one of these civic positions.

Yes, There Will Be Inflatables at Corn Days

    "No carnival? No inflatables?"
Since the schedule came out last week, many people contacted committee members with the concern of nothing for the kids. Well, the committee did add a kiddie cornhole tournament to be held after the pedal tractor pull. They did agree that something was needed for the very young. They needed to secure the funding before they could include something for the kids, and they did not want to hold off the schedule any more, so they excluded the inflatables.
The committee is happy to announce that there will be some inflatables for the very young to enjoy. Two bounce houses, an obstacle course for the older kids, and a football arcade-like game also for older kids will hit the streets on Saturday, September 20th.
