A gorgeous weekend had people crowding downtown and at the rec center all day Saturday and at the churches on Sunday as Danbury celebrated its 125th birthday.
The weekend kicked off Friday morning as garage sales brought bargain hunters into town. This was followed in the evening with Fun Night at Willow Vale Golf Course.
On Saturday morning the post office was open to use the commemorative cancellation stamp on mail for the day. The Methodist parishioners opened Dana Hall for their foodstand. At noon Main Street was lined with people who enjoyed the hour and a half long parade. The afternoon was filled with Bingo provided by Danbury Catholic Schoo, inflatable games including a climbing wall and giant slide, a pedal tractor pull, a petting zoo, pony rides, and train rides. Those looking for a break from the great outdoors entered the rec center to take a walk down memory lane and check out a variety of hand created quilts. The Nuns on the Run performanced before brave souls entered the karaoke contest. The car show filled Barry Motor's lot. The day's activities moved into the night as Mr. Gee's Mobile Music entertained while people enjoyed burgers and brats made by the Danbury Fire Department. The evening ended with the street dance performed by The Rumbles. However, before the filled the city with song, Shelby Wessling, daughter of Sherry and Reggie Wessling was crowned as Gem City Queen; and Maggie Pithan, daughter of Janet Pithan and Greg Pithan was crowned as Gem City Princess.
Sunday morning kicked off with special services at both churches in town. The Knights of Columbus took care of brunch with their omelet brunch at Danbury Catholic School.
Families took advantage of the celebration to hold celebrations of their own. Extended families could be seen in the parade, at the rec center, at the dance, and in church.
Next week's Review will be full of pictures from the weekend.
The regular seasons are ending for the little league teams, and tournaments will be beginning soon. The Danbury Little League Committee is pleased to announce that Danbury will be co-hosting the softball tournament with Mapleton this year. As of this printing, we don’t have the schedule as to game times and locations. We do know the games will be Saturday and Sunday. Go teams!
Children from kindergarten through the fourth grade are asked to Get a Clue @ Cord Memorial Library on July 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 2:00 until 3:00. JoLynn Wright is pleased to announce that story hour will be held on those days.
Story hour will challenge children to get a clue (or two). They will hear stories from Librarian JoLynn Wright, make fun crafts, and eat a great snack.
Plan to join JoLynn for an hour of fun each week!

The big weekend is over, with the exception of the memories in newsprint. This issue will be printed next week to enable more time to assemble the event.
Another reason to wait is to help out with an early deadline. Because of the July 4th falling on a Wednesday, we’ll be printing on Monday so we can get it in the mail on Tuesday. Plus, the little league softball tournaments will be here over the weekend, which will require lots of my time. Therefore, I hope to have the July 4th issue done by Friday evening this week.
