Danbury's 125th quilt, displayed to the right by Joel Ernst, Deb Ernst, and Jean Raney, is up on the bidding block. The quilt which features pictures of businesses, churches, schools, and other landmarks from days gone by will be sold to the winning bidder on June 30, 2007, at 11:59 p.m.
Heres how the auction will be working: Bidding will be held through the Review's web site at www.danbury-ia.com. Simply go to the web site and click on the quilt auction link. The current bid and top email bidder will be displayed. To place a bid, just follow the directions which will guide you through the simple process.
Willing to pay $500 for the quilt but don't want to start that high? The system is set up so that bids may be proctored; the bid will increase by $1 increments until a bid reaches its max. For example, pretend you're willing to pay $500 for the quilt but the bid is at $125 and you'd rather pay less if you can. You can place a $500 bid, but the system will place your bid at $126 so that you are now in the lead. Now Zelda bids $300. Her bid will up the cost to $301, her max plus one dollar to keep you on top. It happens to be 11:57 on June 30th, and no other bids come in during the final minutes of the auction. You have now won the quilt for $301 instead of the $500 you had bid. There may be others bidding at the same time. If two or three or four people say they'd be willing to pay $500 for the quilt, the one who placed the bid first will receive that bid.
If you're interested in bidding but do not have internet access, Jean Barry and Steve Halbur will be happy to place your bid at Barry Motor during office hours. Just call one of them at 712-883-2421.
Proceeds from the auction will go toward the celebration. The Review will not be receiving a percantage cut.

A Parenting Resources Picnic was held at Maple Valley Elementary in conjunction with the last day of school activities on May 30, 2007. Parents were invited for a picnic as they watched their children participate in field day events. A weather glitch had the picnic moved indoors to the elementary school but over 100 parents and guests still participated with their children. Available during that time was a variety of parenting resource information from books to brochures coving all topics from tantrums to personal safety. Several area parenting resource representatives were on hand to visit with parents. We were pleased to have Beth Barclay and Cristy Wright from Monona County Public Health, Robyn Leiter from the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, Jodi Best from Child Health Specialty Clinics, and Kathy Friedli from Northwest Area Education Agency. Other agencies contributing to the event included Burgess Mental Health, Plains Area Mental Health, Quakerdale Children’s Homes, and Monona County ISU Extension, Maple Valley Elementary Guidance, and Maple Valley Title I. Many high school student volunteers helped that day, representing a number of local service groups including the Maple Valley National Honor Society, the Mapleton Majors 4-H club, and the Mapleton Girl Scouts. The event, made possible by a grant from Monona, Harrison, and Shelby County CPPC, was intended to bring community members together both in the planning process and in the event. Special thanks also to John Morrell for their generous contribution of hotdogs.
